Am I blatantly against TV, Advertising, the Internet, and
Electronics of all sorts?
ANSWER: NO, I’m not against TV, advertising, the Internet, and electronics
of any type.

Why? ‘Cause they offer some good, but a lot of bad. The decision is yours to
determine how you use these tools of knowledge, fun, distraction, and
destruction.
• I just watched the Chargers win a Wild Card game a couple of nights ago
and delighted in it with lots of shouts and cheers. I was all by myself
watching 3000 miles away from San Diego, but it was a very interactive
experience for me.
• I watched Elf on TV with my grown son and daughter during the holidays
and it was as if we were all little kids giggling at every silly antic.
• However, when my children were little we had selective TV viewing on
special occasions.
o When children visited our house, they would hunt for the TV, which
they would find disconnected from the cable and in a closet. At first,
they would ask, “What can we do?” We read stories, color
pictures and being a storyteller with a ready audience, I told them
stories. It took time and effort—but the rewards were endless. Then
our house became the preferred home in the neighborhood.
o As they grew up and became teenagers, often at sleepovers even
the 250 pound football playing seniors would ask me to tell them a
bedtime story. That warm fuzzy feeling of good stories is
treasured by kids of all ages—once they are exposed to it.
• However, ADVERTISING is the secret Achilles’ heel of Television.
Those in power have not attacked it because they are afraid that
regulating commercials will kill television’s revenue.
• I believe in freedom of speech in private but over the open airways . . .
NO! Most commercials are truly detrimental to children and undoubtedly
to adults, also. Read on and you will discover how bad commercials are
for the brain.
• I LOVE THE COMPUTER AND INTERNET, cell phone, iPod, and other
instant means of electronic communications. But I believe in using
them well and with supervision for children.

The #1 QUESTION parents ask educators, today:

“How can I get my child to turn off TV, cell phone, computer games, the Internet, and . . . READ A GOOD BOOK FOR FUN?”

Would YOU, too, like to know the answer?

You have before you in this blog the one easy cure for the lack of reading among children. — You will find out what it is, its intrinsic value, and how you can effectively and instantly cure your children of their reading blaze. Read every word of this blog to get the full answer to this most perplexing question.

FACT about American Parents:
• You’re not alone. “Eighty-two percent of
parents wish their children would read
more books for fun.” — Survey by Scholastic

Why is Reading for Fun Is So Critical, Today?
Because kids (and adults, too) are motivated by FUN! Disney knew this when he
designed Epcot. Great achievers pursue their passion (to them their FUN). The
more fun something is, the more likely your kids will do it, too. Right? Right!
The more your kids do something, the better they get at it. Right? Well, Right if
what they are doing is FUN!
Picture this: Your kids coming home from school, and immediately attacking their
homework at the kitchen table. When done, they plead, “Mom, Let’s read a good
storybook for the fun of it!”

You’re busy making dinner so you turn on the computer and click on a Talking
Animated Picture E-Storybook. Instantly, your kids are involved in reading a
good storybook. You continue making dinner and at the same time listen to the story with them. You discuss it, print out coloring pages, and make it a family fun time.

How’s that for multitasking the right way?

I’ve found if fun turns into work (forced drudgery), then the more kids do, the
less fun it is, the more they dislike it, and the worse they get at it. Add failure,
embarrassment, pain and humiliation to the mix and kids have the ingredients for
hating, not loving, the activity. What kids hate they avoid!

Download Your FREE Father’s Day Journal PDF Here!
